Knowledge Host Medical Literature Client/Server Solutions Now Available for Linux

North Andover, MA, USA -- February 16, 1999. Aries Systems Corporation of North Andover MA is the first medical library information vendor to release a Linux-based solution for hosting large bibliographic and full content databases on an Intranet. Knowledge Host is a client/server solution that allows librarians and system administrators to deliver a value-added electronic medical library on their own Intranet. Databases supported by Linux Knowledge Host include: MEDLINE, CINAHL, AIDSLINE, CANERLIT, PsycLIT, ClinPSYC, HEATHSTAR and EMBASE Alert.

Knowledge Host comes with an array of utilities designed to reinforce the librarian's role as an essential link in the knowledge retrieval chain. For example, librarians can incorporate local holdings information so that searches can be limited to journals made available by the library.

Librarians can also configure the user interface to match the spectrum of patron searching expertise typically found on an Intranet. Knowledge Finder is a "gentle slope interface", that means even novice users get good search results because queries can be expressed in natural language, and words are automatically mapped to the appropriate medical terms. More experienced users benefit from traditional features such as Boolean operators and thesaurus browsing.
