FOR RELEASE: Immediately Enhanced Web version of Knowledge Finder literature search engine includes new features that help physicians, researchers, nurses and librarians to work together... North Andover, MA, USA -- October 28, 1999. As part of its ongoing commitment to the propagation of knowledge on the Web, Aries Systems has enhanced its Web search engine, Knowledge Finder, with new features that encourage interaction between medical professionals and librarians on the Internet. The newly released version of Knowledge Finder allows users to selectively mark bibliographic records and email document requests to librarians. One of the supported email formats is QuickDOC, a software package that is used by more than 30% of medical librarians to manage inter-library loans. This means that physicians and nurses can use the natural language capabilities of Knowledge Finder to rapidly identify and select relevant literature, and seamlessly request documents in a format that is already used by many libraries to process such requests. Jay Daly, the developer of QuickDOC, reviewed the implementation and commented "it's nicely designed, and easy to navigate". The Knowledge Finder search engine also allows the display of library journal holdings. This means that librarians can insert information into bibliographic databases that tells patrons where print and electronic versions of full content articles are located. In addition, Knowledge Finder has been enhanced to support exporting of marked records to personal bibliographic software such as EndNote, Reference Manager, Papyrus, Bookends and ProCite. For example, the integration with EndNote allows users to instantly transfer search results to their EndNote database, thereby avoiding previously required steps of downloading and importing. Richard K. Niles, President of ISI ResearchSoft, said "We have a long history of collaboration with Knowledge Finder, and we are delighted that their Web search engine integrates with all three of our products: EndNote, Reference Manager, and ProCite." Richard Wynne, Director of Sales and Marketing at Aries, said "the new release of Knowledge Finder on the Web includes features that have been requested by librarians and physicians, and builds on our leadership in concept and natural language mapping technology. We encourage users to evaluate all of our products, especially the new version of MEDLINE that is now updated daily and includes a growing collection of links to more than 600 full content journals". He added, "watch out for further innovations during the next few months".
