Medical and Physics Publishers Expand Asian Markets with New Partnership

North Andover, MA, USA -- August 10, 2001. North Andover, Massachusetts, USA. August 10, 2001: The American Institute of Physics, The American Physical Society, S. Karger AG, and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins have entered into agreements with Japanese content distributor KnowledgeWire, Corp. to provide pay-per-view access to journals in PDF format and pint-on-demand delivery from these journals in Japan.

KnowledgeWire, Corp. is the content distributor and document delivery vendor, formed in response to the booming demand for electronic scientific, technical and medical information in Asia. Koji Yamashita, Chief Executive of KnowledgeWire, commented "many European and American publishers can substantially increase their overall revenues from Asia through partnerships and the adoption of more flexible business models such as print-on-demand delivery, electronic pay-per-view, and bulk order electronic reprints."

Piracy and unauthorized copying are chronic problems in this region of the world, so it was essential for KnowledgeWire to adopt a DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution that would ensure the integrity of publishers' copyrights. The company chose DocuRights(r) technology from Aries Systems Corporation because of its proven ability to protect content while ensuring ease of use and flexibility for readers. Koji Yamashita commented further "In order to attract publishing partners we had to demonstrate our ability to protect their copyright even after documents have left our Web site. KnowledgeWire will soon be announcing agreements with several other leading publishers for delivery of print-on-demand and electronic pay per view transactions using DocuRights technology.
