Overview
Knowledge MedRef is a bibliographic reference database for important medical journal literature. Many of the titles in the database are indexed only in Knowledge MedRef, making the database a uniquely valuable resource for health care researchers, clinicians and consumers.

Database Contents
The Knowledge MedRef database is continually growing, as we add new titles and additional materials for titles already in the database. Database entries include bibliographic and abstract content, providing you with valuable information about the journal article.

At the present time, the premier edition of the database is being published with eleven titles from Williams & Wilkins (Baltimore, Maryland). Aries Systems is presently undertaking discussions with many other publishers, in anticipation of their participation in this exciting and valuable project. Titles presently represented in the database are:

    • ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal
    • Cardiology in Review
    • Clinical Pulmonary Medicine
    • Emergency Radiology
    • Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice
    • JCR:Journal of Clinical Rheumatology
    • Journal of Practical Psychiatry and Behavioral Health
    • The Endocrinologist
    • The Neurologist

Service Description
Give your biomedical journal the worldwide recognition it deserves! With Knowledge MedRef, you can create immediate, widespread electronic visibility for your journal articles, reports, reviews and correspondence. No waiting for indexing services to "select" your journal for inclusion, no delays waiting for someone else to add references for your articles into a database. Knowledge MedRef's rapid indexing service puts your information on-line today, when you want it.

Knowledge MedRef provides publishers of medical literature an innovative and effective service for citation and reference of their publications. Unlike traditional electronic indexing services and bibliographic databases, Knowledge MedRef offers:

  • Citation publication (with or without abstract) for any and all medical, healthcare and social science publications.
  • Rapid publication of the citation on the World Wide Web.
  • Accessibility of citations using Aries' acclaimed Knowledge Finder and Knowledge Web search technologies.
  • Immediate worldwide visibility of publication content.
  • No charges for entry, storage or subsequent retrieval of your reference content.

Capturing Your Article Reference Information
Adding your article references to Knowledge MedRef is as simple as starting up your Web browser! Point your Web browser to the Knowledge MedRef Web site, and then just copy-and-paste citation and abstract data from your existing electronic files into the Knowledge MedRef data form. Press the Submit button, and that's all you have to do!

Your citation data are then stored in a central Knowledge MedRef editorial database, under password protected access that you control. At any time, you can recall, edit, update and modify entries in the editorial database. You decide when the entry should be released for publication in the on-line Knowledge MedRef database (you can still make modifications, even after release).

Article Reference Publication
Soon after you release your article data for publication, it'll be available in the on-line Knowledge MedRef database. There, it'll be accessible by researchers, clinicians, educators and other healthcare professionals around the world.

On-line users access the database either with our simple Knowledge Web browser interface, or with our Expert Knowledge Finder client software. Our advanced fuzzy logic search engine accepts natural language queries, and produces search results ranked in order of likely relevance to the query. Users find that our interfaces and search engine save them time, and provide better search results than other services.

The Knowledge MedRef database will explicitly identify you as the publisher of your article data, along with entries from other important publishers. The collection of valuable and unique content from many publishers will make Knowledge MedRef appealing to a wide range of healthcare professionals. Your publications will then become accessible not only to the target audience for your journal, but also to all healthcare specialists.

Publishers, whose submitted data include article abstracts or summaries, may receive a portion of database access charge revenues resulting from publication of the Knowledge MedRef database.

Document Ordering and Delivery (Available early 1999)
As an optional part of your participation in Knowledge MedRef, user requests for the full article can be automatically and electronically sent to you or a designated agent for fulfillment. Our Knowledge MedRef Web server will create a document order for the user, capturing appropriate delivery and payment information. The document order is then forwarded instantaneously to the fulfillment location. A nominal service charge is paid by the publisher to Knowledge MedRef for each document order forwarded.
