ExtraLib.Com - Free Web Site Hosting for Medical Libraries

North Andover, MA, USA -- May 10, 1999. Ever since the emergence of the World Wide Web, medical librarians have been told that the Internet offers them an opportunity to serve patrons in a new medium. In reality, however, the majority of libraries have been starved of the resources and tools required to launch their libraries into cyberspace - many cannot even get the IS resources to set up a library web site. As a result, librarians are increasingly "dis-intermediated" by "free" services that are supported through advertising or other means, that do not recognize the value of librarianship.

ExtraLib.Com, recently launched by Aries Systems Corporation, North Andover MA, is designed to provide a platform for medical librarians to effectively compete in the Web environment by providing patrons with a value-added experience of the Internet.
